At Maine Maritime Museum, we’ll spend time exploring the exhibits, and then use art and artifacts from Maine’s rich maritime culture to inspire our writing.
Join The Telling Room Adult Writers Workshop series on Wednesday, May 7th, 6pm - 7:30pm as we explore letter writing in the form of epistolary poems, letters to our former selves, loved ones, and letters we write and never, ever intend to send.

Join this year’s cohort of Young Writers & Leaders as they read from and launch their book, Outbeam the Sun, on Tuesday, May 28th and Wednesday, May 29th from 4:30pm - 6:00pm at the Portland Museum of Art’s Osher Auditorium.
In this year’s anthology of writing from Young Writers & Leaders, you’ll find stories and poems that radiate. Creative writing allows students to shine their brightest. As author Sunila says in her story, “Even now, I’ve only just realized how much writing really means to me. It’s about having another way to understand people and to think from different views and biases that aren’t mine.”
Books will be available for purchase at the event. This event is free and open to the public.
Join us at Words that Change the World, a novel fundraising event to benefit The Telling Room. This first-of-its-kind night at Ocean Gateway on Thursday, May 16th will feature world-changing wordsmiths and storytellers—both emerging and established—whose work has a tangible impact on our community.

These great authors will be discussing their writing journeys, the importance of centering marginalized voices in young adult literature, and so much more!
Join us at the Merrill Memorial Library to hear Yarmouth’s own Atticus Prinn read from and discuss his new novel, Foxtrot Algorithm, that he created during his Telling Room’s Young Emerging Authors Fellowship. This is a perfect opportunity to learn about the writing process for current and aspiring writers of all ages! Anyone who enjoys young adult literature will get something from this event.

Thanks to our community partners at Portland Ovations, Portland Stage, and the Children's Museum and Theater of Maine, we have a number of free tickets to performances over the next few weeks. We will then offer a workshop focused on the art of writing reviews.
