Poetry: terrifying to adults, second nature to children. But why? In this workshop, we'll attempt to reverse the effects of decades of fear-mongering, reintroducing poetry to participants using the very same games, texts, and writing prompts that Telling Room teaching artists bring to elementary-school classrooms. These are playful, open-ended activities suitable for writers of all ages. Recess not included!
This workshop will be hosted by Lead Teacher & Volunteer Manager Jack Gendron. Jack holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Syracuse and is the author of two poetry collections. They enjoy the smell of almost all baked goods, the look of a dog wearing sunglasses, the audible gasp of a net when a basketball passes through it, and are excited for you to join them in Fourth Grade Poetry (For Adults).
This course is a part of a series of adult workshops: Comics Workshop (For Adults), The Letter You Keep Meaning to Send (For Adults), and Fourth Grade Poetry (For Adults).
