Presque Isle Workshop and Reading

  • The Library House 228 State Street Presque Isle, ME, 04769 United States (map)

Have you wondered what genre is best for world-building and scene-setting: fiction or nonfiction? How does each genre lend to epic storytelling, and what worlds have you thought of building?

Join Mo Drammeh and Sophia Tyutyunnyk on Saturday, October 3rd at The Library House on Presque Isle to answer these questions and more! The writing workshop will take place at 1PM, followed by a reading and Q&A segment at 5PM.

Hear from our authors whose works differ in genre between fiction and non-fiction, but emphasize the power of world-building and impactful storytelling.

Mo Drammeh wrote Where the Cryptids Fled as a senior at Bangor High School. They were among Maine Magazine's Mainers of the Year in 2022 for their writing, were the winner of the 2022 Crime Flash Competition, and were a 2023 Macklin Fellow. Mo grew up in Bangor, Maine, and has lived there all of their life. They currently attend the University of Maine in Orono, pursuing a science degree, and were awarded full tuition for their project at the Maine State Science Fair. They plan to continue writing into the foreseeable future and a bit past that, too.

Sophia Tyutyunnyk wrote Candle on the Tree as a sophomore at Orono High School in Orono, Maine. Her coming-of-age memoir is about accompanying her parents to Kyiv, Ukraine, as they finalized their journey to legal permanent residency in the United States. In 2023, Sophia won The Telling Room's Writing Contest for Penobscot County. Other than writing, Sophia enjoys playing soccer, swimming competitively, listening to music, and traveling with her family. In the future, Sophia hopes to go into STEM and write more books.
