About the Ambassador Program
The Telling Room Ambassadors are alumni who work as temporary part-time employees to extend our writers' impact in the community. In addition to speaking at events of all types as organization representatives, the group advises on Telling Room strategy and may play key roles in programming, publications, and development. Ambassadors typically meet once a month throughout the year and more often during organization events.

Ambassador Job Description:
At the Telling Room, we empower youth through writing and share their voices with the world. Focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, we seek to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students. We believe that the power of creative expression can change our communities and prepare our youth for future success.
Description:
The Telling Room Ambassadors are alumni who work as temporary part-time employees to extend our writers' impact in the community. In addition to speaking at events of all types as organization representatives, the group advises on Telling Room strategy and may play key roles in programming, publications, and development. Ambassadors have three retreats per year, periodic meetings, and participate in a range of organization activities.
Roles and Responsibilities (have included):
Presenting at conferences
Advising on organizational policies
Assisting in planning and attending Telling Room events
Assisting teaching artists in Telling Room programs
Participating in Telling Room training and professional development opportunities
Creative visioning for publishing projects, partnerships, and program development
Participation on hiring committees
Supporting events
Special projects
Expectations and Requirements:
Flexible availability for virtual meetings or in-person meetings
Excellent communication skills
Must have participated in past Telling Room programs
Possess an interest in the literary arts, youth advocacy, and nonprofit management
At least 18 years old (no longer a high school student)
Pass a background check to ensure applicants can work around youth
Must have Maine residency (can be in college out of state)
2024 Meeting Dates: Ambassadors meet hourly once a month based on availability
Benefits and Compensation:
Telling Room Ambassadors are paid $15.00 per hour.
Access to professional development opportunities
Mileage reimbursement at the federal rate when travel is necessary
Hours:
Hours are flexible and project-based. Ambassadors work an average of 1 to 4 hours a month.
