Young Emerging Authors Book Launch & Reading
August 25th from 3:30pm - 5:00pm at SPACE Gallery

This year's cohort of Young Emerging Authors will celebrate the release of their 2022 titles on August 25th at SPACE Gallery from 3:30pm - 5:00pm! We hope you'll join us as we celebrate this milestone and honor Leela, Noor, Hailey, and Victoria's writing. This event is free and open to the public, and masks are required. You can preorder these forthcoming titles starting today and opt to pick them up at the book launch on August 25th, or have them shipped to your home.

We hope to see you at the launch on August 25th, or at another reading with these four dedicated authors. You won't want to miss the chance to add these new reads to your bookshelf!

About the Authors

Leela Marie Hidier was born and raised in London, UK, and now lives in a three-generational household in Maine. Changes in the Weather is her debut novel, which she wrote as part of The Telling Room’s Young Emerging Authors program. An excerpt from it can also be found in the Telling Room anthology, Echoes from the Basement. Leela enjoys playing the piano and mandolin, reading historical fiction, discovering new swimming holes and beaches, baking without recipes, and, of course, writing.

Noor Sager is a young author whose debut novel, A Destiny Borrowed, was published at age seventeen. Born in Iraq and raised in Maine, Noor bounced around a few towns before settling in Gorham. Expect to see more tales of self-discovery and families of choice from Noor in the near future, but until then, SagerWritings.com holds more short stories and information.

Hailey Talbert is a seventeen-year-old debut poet and painter from Falmouth High School. When she is not playing with iambic pentameter or smearing oil paint on a blank canvas, Hailey loves nothing more than to be outside, enjoying Maine’s nature during long hikes or beach walks where she often falls susceptible to jumping in the frigid ocean. She is always looking for ways to reduce her carbon footprint on the earth, such as sewing her own clothes and eating vegan from her vegetable garden. Hailey is especially passionate about youth involvement in the climate crisis. She hopes to leave a better world behind for future generations, using her words and brushstrokes in the fight to save our burning planet.

Victoria Yang is nineteen years old and will be attending Dartmouth in the fall. She is originally from New Jersey but moved to Maine in 2021 to attend the Telling Room’s Young Emerging Authors Fellowship. An excerpt from this book was published in the Telling Room’s 2022 anthology, Echoes from the Basement. During her gap year before college, Victoria worked as a bookseller, a barista, and a personal grocery shopper while writing.
