The Telling Room has gone virtual until it feels safe for our staff, volunteers, teaching artists, students and community to gather. Like many of you, we've been actively following the progression of COVID-19 in Maine, in other parts of the country and across the globe. In the interest of following guidance from local, state and federal authorities regarding measures that best promote public health, we have suspended our daily in-person operations until further notice. Please visit our Programs page for more information and to learn about our virtual programming.

Our Ambassador initiative is a way to extend our writers' impact in the community. In addition to speaking at events of all types, the ambassadors meet quarterly to advise on Telling Room strategy.

Our 2019-2020 Ambassadors are:

Maryam Abdullah
Edna-Thecla Akimana
Zainab Almatwari
Gracia Bareti
Margarida Celestino
Ceiba Crow
Elizabeth Flanagan
Judicaelle Irakoze
Hussein Maow
Rhode Niangasa
Ladislas Nzeyimana
Siri Pierce
Salar Salim
Henry Spritz

Benedita Zalabantu

About the Program

Our ambassadors meet for four quarterly meetings of 1.5 hours each in addition to presenting at community events. They must be at least 14 years old and have been published in a Telling Room publication or participated in one of our core programs: Young Emerging Authors, Young Writers & Leaders, Writers Block, or Publishing Workshop.

Participants are paid $25 for every quarterly meeting, $25/hour for speaking engagements that do not require preparation, and $50/hour for speaking engagements that require preparation.

Speaking Engagements

If you'd like the Ambassadors to speak at your event, please submit a proposal and we'll be in touch!
