"Hoop Dreams"

I usually smell like back yard dirt, often I taste like tire rubber,
If I’m dribbled I sound like door knocks and I feel like a
smooth rubber with a plethora of tiny bumps.
I’m more than just a sphere object used in a sport,
Because I give hope to those who grind on the court.
Ball is life. Doesn’t mean you just love playing basketball.
It means you eat, sleep and live basketball.
Waking up everyday hitting the gym ballin till you fall.
After all it is a game for all.
Many use me to get money and clout,
But young blood that’s not what it’s all about.
Everyone wants to have a Lebron or Michael Jordan story,
But in order to achieve greatness you have to envision your own glory.
They got the jersey on em two four like Kobe Bryant.
I remember when he died he had many youngins crying.
Keep hooping, don’t stop grinding,
You are an upcoming star. One day you will begin shining.
I know they looked down and laughed at you,
Just because you missed a shot but wanted to be great too.
No one gave nothing to you. You got it rough.
Since day one I always knew you were tough.
You put in the work and changed your mentality.
You knew there would be struggles. You’re not perfect. That’s just the reality.
I’m proud of you kiddo. They slept on you like a mattress.
You battled the hate, and now you’re on the map like an address.
